Spring is my favourite time of year, early spring. And I believe that goes for my dogs as well. They sit out in the grass, nose up in the air, and just soak in the fragrances of spring. And they eat lots of grass on their walks.
This is the time of year to cleanse and to support liver function. This is what they had for breakfast this am.
1c of Quinua (yellow or red) – cook with 3 c of water – about 15 minutes
While still hot, add: 3 hand fulls of freshly cut and chopped Dandelion leaves, 2 TB dried Calendula leaves, 2 TB dried stinging nettles (or, if you are fortunate enough to live in parts of the world where stinging nettles grow, use 2 handfuls of fresh ones) and add 2 TB of butter.
Mix it all up and divide into their three dishes. When cooled completely add 3/4 c of plain yogurt. Add their supplements and Cranimals and serve.
During the early spring they will have Dandelions at least 3 times a week for a couple of weeks. And as soon as you can harvest fresh stinging nettles, use them instead of spinach. They are packed with good nutrients. And it easy enough to pick them – just wear gloves. put them in a bowl and add boiling water – just enough to cover – and they sting no more!
Make sure you use that water in the doggie dinner – it’s great to add the water and the nettles to a serving of Ziwipeak.
